Satellite monitoring of crops and soil: precision agriculture and farm economics

Zones of variable crop yields can be identified based on satellite imagery or maps from a combine harvester. On this basis, the expected yield can be visualized on a map for the future, taking into account variations in soil fertility, natural fertilization, crop residues, and cover crops. The use of precision farming techniques appears tohave no limitations and translates into improved farm economics. Practitioners—Krzysztof Gawęcki, Vice President of Top Farms, and experts from Vantage and SatAgro—will discuss this topic.

The following will participate in the discussion:

Dr. Przemysław Żelazowski—founder and managing director of the SatAgro platform

Dr. Przemysław Żelazowski has been supporting farms in implementing precision agriculture and satellite crop monitoring (since 2015), and is also an assistant professor at the Center for New Technologies (CeNT) at the University of Warsaw. Dr. Żelazowski focuses on interdisciplinary issues concerning the relationship between vegetation (forests, crops) and their environment—including on a global scale—as well as satellite remote sensing. In 2010, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford (Institute for Environmental Change). Prior to joining CeNT at the University of Warsaw, he worked for institutions such as the Met Office Hadley Centre in the United Kingdom, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
